BOARDING FOR BREAST CANCER
B4BC is honored that Taos has joined forces with us this winter season to help Shred the Love…
Shred the Love is a way of being – healthy, active, and aware. The goal of the Shred the Love movement is to inspire and promote a healthy, active lifestyle as the best means for breast cancer prevention through partnership and industry support this Winter Season. Originated by Boarding for Breast Cancer (B4BC), friends everywhere are invited to join the crusade to stomp out breast cancer.
About Boarding For Breast Cancer
BOARDING FOR BREAST CANCER (B4BC) is a 501c3 youth-focused non-profit foundation that advocates early detection + a healthy, active lifestyle as the best means of breast cancer prevention. Founded in 1996 with the Snowboard + Music Festival, B4BC has expanded its program focus to include year-round educational outreach, prevention and support rooted in board sports culture. Funds from the Shred the Love campaign will be dedicated to furthering these efforts. For more information, visit B4BC.org
Our Inspiration
The inspiration for Boarding For Breast Cancer was a young woman named Monica Steward. Monica, who was a very dear friend of all B4BC founders, started her battle with breast cancer at the age of 26 and passed two years later from complications that arose from the disease.
Boarding For Breast Cancer was founded as a result of Monica voicing her frustration about the lack of awareness among young women about the disease to friends and future co-founders, Tina Basich, Shannon Dunn, Lisa Hudson and Kathleen Gasperini. Their idea was to create an event that centered around their mutual passions, snowboarding and music, to communicate the message of awareness while raising money for research and educating young women about breast cancer.
Monica Steward passed away a month later, just three months before her inaugural Boarding For Breast Cancer Snowboard + Music Festival event.
Since that initial event B4BC has expanded its program focus to include year-round educational outreach, prevention and Survivorship support rooted in the board sport culture educating over 100,000 young people each year about the importance of early detection and the value of an active lifestyle in the fight against breast cancer.
