K2 Bumps Challenge
Race Down Al’s Run for Charity

Als RunThis is a fun and challenging ski/snowboard competition during which teams win prizes and raise money based on the number of times they’re able to ski Al’s Run – one of Taos Ski Valley’s most famous and popular mogul runs on the face of the mountain – in the allotted time frame. One hundred percent of the proceeds benefit Boarding for Breast Cancer and the Anita Salas Memorial Fund.

Athletes (as teams or as individuals) will secure donations based on the number of times they can ski Al’s Run in a four-hour time slot.

Date
Saturday, February 25, 2012

Venue
The famed Al’s Run at Taos Ski Valley, NM.

Format
The event consists of individual skiers/snowboards and teams of up to four people. The goal for the event is to ski/ride as many runs on Al’s Run as possible in a four hour time period. Teams secure donations based on the number of runs they complete in the allotted time period. “Bonus runs” will be awarded to the teams with the best costumes.

Multi-person teams are expected to compete based on a relay format. Team members will “pass the bra” after each run.

Check-In / Registration
Will be held in the Martini Tree Bar on morning of the event from 8:00am to 9:15am. Teams MUST have at least $200 in pledges to enter the event. All participants will receive a free event t-shirt. All proceeds benefit Boarding for Breast Cancer and the Anita Salas Memorial Fund. Checks should be made out to Taos Ski Valley, Inc. Memo line should read “K2 Bumps Challenge”.

Bibs will be distributed randomly at registration. Competitors must have bibs on them whenever skiing/snowboarding at any time during the event.

Pledges / Donations
Pledges/donations are to be collected within 20 days from the date of competition.

Event Time
10:00am (at the top of Lift #5) – 2:00pm

Competition Begins (LeMans Start)
We will start with what’s called a LeMans start at the top of lift #5. During pre-race announcements everyone will be required to put their skis and boards into a designated area before you get onto the start line. When the 3, 2, 1 goes you will run about 100 feet to a bamboo pole, run around the pole and make your way back to your skis and boards and head to the Upper Al’s Run entrance. It’s a bit of a lung burner but a lot of fun and separates everyone right away.

Awards / Prizes
4:00 p.m. at the Martini Tree Bar. Teams who raise the most money, ski the most runs and have the most fun will win great prizes.
During the Awards Party, we will be drawing random bib numbers for a chance to win the following prizes from our great sponsors (but you have to be there to win!):

Are pledges tax deductible? If so, how do those who pledge get a tax receipt?

    • studiokarina February 3, 2012 at 3:37 pm #

I apologize for the delayed response, we wanted to make sure you were getting accurate information. Unfortunately, we did not anticipate what is a very valid suggestion for this season’s event. At this point, because we are working with two individual non-profits we are having to funnel all funds through TSV, Inc. For this reason contestant fund-raising is not eligible as a tax-deduction. As the event grows and evolves, we will be considering how we can offer tax deductible pledges through the 501c3 beneficiaries.
      Thank you.
